Boat is located in: Ithaca , New York
"Bitter Sweet" is a 36' wooden sloop (Great Lakes Class) built by the Burr Bros. of Marion, MA in 1960.
She had a complete interior restoration starting in 2007 with refinished berths, new wiring, new electrical panel, all new lamps with LED lighting, refinished mahogany, new cushions, new stove (two burner propane), new cabinets, new head toilet and sink.
She has a draft of 4' with the centerboard up and 7' with it down.
She has a beam of 10'9", 6'1' headroom below and displaces 14,000 lbs.
A new mast (2014) and a new (2014) Beta Marine 25 diesel engine with approximately 170 hours.
An extremely wonderful sailing boat - steady and slippery.
More history: This boat was designed by famed naval Architect FS Ford Jr from MI and as a class there were 8 built, four in MI and four in MA.
I believe this to be the only survivor.
I spent seven years on the restoration doing all the work myself in collaboration with shipright Dennis Montgomery of Cayuga Wooden Boats.
A new mast was made by Thompson Spars of S.
Dartmouth, MA.
Work included new cabin sides (all mahogany), new large port lights, new cockpit coamings and lazarretts, and a completely refinished cabin top.
She has a full complement of sails, two main (one new) and two Genoas, one 10 years old and the other new.
The Beta Marine 25 was installed in 2014 along with a new three blade bronze prop which has had full and expert maintenance since installation.
The boat has all dock lines, sheets, halyards and a variety of others, two anchors (one danforth and a CQR), propane tank installed under the port lazarrett and 2014 two burner propane in the galley.
A 2014 composting toilet in the head.
Two 75 gallon water tanks under the V berths.
New (2014) cushions for the V berth, main salon, and cockpit.
I have restored and cared for her since she was bought in 2007.
And I have hundreds more pictures if needed.
